‘Autumn’ is written like this, with some grain still-on-the-stalk on the left and some fire on the right, because it’s the season when grain is burned to kill locust eggs, and thus prevent locust swarms the following year. The Japanese pronunciation is SHŪ and aki, the Chinese qiū.
