家 (the simplified character is the same)
This character, pronounced KA or ie in Japanese, jiā in Chinese, means ‘home, family.’
It consists of a roof
宀 ,
and under the roof there is
豕 ,
a pig. Home is where the pigs are, they apparently used to say. The pigs would wander around under the homes, which were up on stilts. You can see the head as the horizontal line, the four legs off to the left, and the back and the tail on the right.
